Settlement Question
For all of you who are close to settlement, were you able to push back your closing date by a few weeks or did Ryan make you settle within a couple of days of their proposed date? Thanks for the quick feedback.
Push back the closing date?!? Seriously? I wanted it sooner! As a matter of fact, we were originally told July 20th from our SR but in our pre-construction meeting, our PM told us August 6th. I was bummed. My husband didn't care though.
Hi Danielle, what did the sales office have to say about your question? I know they are infamous for changing the dates; however, I am curious as to whether or not they can oblige your request. We have to give our rental office a 60 day moving notice. My strategic planning involves bumping out the rental departure date three-four weeks for unexpected changes; but more importantly, go to closing, get our keys, and have the painters, the exterminator (for the new home), the custom closet installers, new furniture deliveries, cable company, and honey-do-list completed before the moving company brings over the furniture that we decided to keep and time to clean rental. I have become a professional mover by default from the frequent moving I have done in my adult life. I dare not tell you how many times we have moved. This will be the LAST move into our DREAM HOME! I am so DONE with moving/packing. I have to admit being an events planner has helped tremendously with organizing our moves. I have come to learn how to stream line the moving process with impeccable organization to have it run easily and effortlessly. Those many moves paid off in the long run. lol
Hey Nadase! I did not ask our SR, but I'm certain the answer from reading all the blogs is no. I will still ask so that I'm 100% sure. Professional mover, huh? Do share your techniques and lessons learned. Truth be told, I love to organize! So, I've already started my move spreasheet (it's color coded)that categorizes our furniture and artwork. The spreadsheet includes where items are to be placed too. Having an inventory of sorts will help me know what I already have, so I don't need to buy other items, etc.
Oops, I missed read your question. I think it is difficult to get earlier dates but I have read where some folks requested for a change by a day or two and received their wish. As we know, it's community specific and the PM is the best source of when the house will be completed by. But I would definitely ASK, because someone may be willing to switch dates.
Since I moved to this area, I always had to rely on friends in my early twenties to help me move and after a couple of failed moves waiting for friends to show up, I nipped that in the bud very fast. I promised myself that I would always use a professional mover regardless of the cost.
I love love the color coded spreadsheet idea! Please share and email it to me at proctorhousehold@gmail.com. I would appreciate it greatly and we can communicate offline regarding other tips. I tend to get very wordy on these blogs. lol
Tip#2 - Start packing YESTERDAY! Gather boxes, no need to purchase them! Stop by your local Walmart, Kmart, Supermarket and ask when you can pick up boxes. Be ready! Because they have plenty and will already be clasped for you.
The Kmart in my area were more than willing and prefers for you to be at the store bright and early approximately 7:30 - 8:00 o'clock in the morning.
We were given our date and weren't allowed to move from that date.
